...............4.THE DEBATE RAGES ON
...A Key Member of Uniclam's famous defense speaks
............................By Jiki Jarju...................Posted January 16th, 2007

Jiki Jarju a member of the famous Uniclam's defensive line-up weighs in on the on-going
debate of the great soccer battle of 1989. In his response Jiki takes us through the series
of victories Uniclam team achieved prior to their eventual collison with Napoli at the epic
finals on that sunday afternoon 17 years ago in the soccer field of serekunda west.

Gainako wish to thank Mr Jiki Jarju, Mr Laama Jallow, and Mr Louis Thomasi for this
healthy and mature debate that helps us all understand this part of history that is so memorable.

(Below we reproduce Jiki Jarju's whole piece unedited)

Dear editor, I must again come in here to take on Pa Louis Thomasi, 17 odd years after that defeat. He
has rightly corrected Laama's point about Karamo Mass (Kass), Matarr Boye and Pa Boye all of
Ngoyan
Football Club and Jupiter (a Stickler die heart fan).

My dear friend Pa Louis Thomasi, has again only centered on what Napoli achieved on their way to the
finals, but what has Uniclam done to get to the finals. If my memories serve me well here, Uniclam never
lost during that Tournament, we have put aside the mighty
Sticklers (with Lembesh), Baba Khans team
and the team from Dippa kunda with Lamin Jobe. We were from the word go, the better team that even
the die heart fan of Latrikunda and Dippakunda could see.

He finally referred to Uniclam as the surprise team of that tournament, I saw it differently, we were the
better team. We were fitter and therefore could maintain that standard of playing to even forming the
Family Planning Team.

At that stage, the Uniclam team saw the inputs of Kass, Matarr Boye and Ngorr Secka etc. The Family
Planning Teams ambition of joining the GFA league was crushed in Brikama, were the Lamin sponsored
referee (Deep, former goalkeeper) helped the Brikama selection by allowing an offside goal.

One thing I must add to all these, is that Nawettan has never being the same since those days and I hope
to hear the
Sticklers story too.

Thanks for keeping this alive.

Jiky Jarju
