The Gambia Clocks 42
By GON..................Posted February 18th, 2007

Our dear nation, the Gambia clocks 42 today, February 18th 2007. As usual, the day is normally
observed by singing the national anthem, fondly known as “
For da’Gambia”. This truly reflects a
memorable victory in our time when Gambians won Independence from the British Colony in 1965.
Independence celebrations are not only about singing our national song, but a day to reflect on the
successes” and “failures” of our nation since February 18th 1965. Assessing where we are thus far,
there is still a need to celebrate a day worth celebration by the true people of its nation. There has been
much “tears” to think the opposite. But all Gambians should use the day as a day of supplication to
Almighty God, Who sees every object and hears every sound, no matter how small.

Gainako wishes all Gambians at home and abroad a happy 42nd anniversary. The term “
Gambians
includes friends of the Gambia.

The Gambia National Anthem.
For The Gambia, our homeland,
we strive and work and pray,
That all may live in unity,
freedom and peace each day.

Let justice guide our actions
towards the common good,
And join our diverse peoples
to prove man's brotherhood.

We pledge our firm allegiance,
our promise we renew;
Keep us, great God of nations,
to The Gambia ever true.
