JAMMEH'S HIV TREATMENT UPDATE: ONE DEATH; THREE EXPELLED, AND TWO SERIOUSLY SICK By Demba Baldeh, Editor & Political Commentator...... April 16th, 2007 |
Editor's note: As we stated from the unset of Jammeh's Announcement for finding a cure for HIV/AIDS, it was only a matter of time before this whole false treatment scam can be exposed. Now, facts are beginning to emerge that Jammeh's treatment has no effect and is even exposing patients to further weakness of their immune systems. Gainako will closely monitor events in the treatment camp and will update the general public of the developments no matter how long it takes. Three months into Jammeh's widely publicized controversial HIV treatment, things are not looking good for the President cum Doctor. Reliable sources from within the treatment camp reported that one of Jammeh's patients has passed away while on his active treatment. The decease is Saffiatou Alias Ananko died on April 2, 2007. The report further has it that three female patients were expelled from the treatment camp due to minor unacceptable behavior during treatment. The expulsion was handed down to Jainaba Sey; Mai Sanneh, and Fatou Sanneh because of minor in fighting between the three female patients. Our source was shocked with news of the expulsion especially given the seriousness of their illness as compared to the minor offenses. In another development, one of the patients together with her adopted child in the treatment are said to be seriously sick and are being treated at the Intensive Care Unit of the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital (RVTH) in Banjul. Doctors at the ICU are faced with difficulty in treating the patients since they are not allowed to give the antiretroviral medicine to the HIV positive patients because of Jammeh's herbal treatment. The doctors and nurses at RVTH are apparently very confused as how to go about treating their new patients who are serious sick especially the young child. The treatment team is left with few options to either choose between doing what is the best treatment for the patients medically, or yield to political pressure and let the patients go untreated. The only option then would be to send the patients back to the Jammeh camp to continue on their herbal treatment. This report of a young child being caught up between the Jammeh treatment and the doctors at RVTH is quite disturbing to our reporter and many readers. Every child or their parents deserves to be given the best medical care and treatment during illness. To deprive patients of the best treatment option is not only ethically wrong but inhumane to say the least. This is the dilemma Jammeh's HIV/AIDS treatment put medically trained personnel who have the moral responsibility to administer and recommend the best treatment option for patients. It is sad that innocent people are subjected to such degrading conditions. We extend our condolences to the decease's family. ......A FRIEND MOURNED THE ....DEATH OF FA-BAKARY NJIE ...............................By Lamin Touray, Los Angeles, California.....Posted April 15th, 2007 Dear Editor, Please allow me to say few things about my long lost friend and now deceased Fa- Bakary Njie. I've known him since they joined us at Saints Augustine High School Sixth form from Nusrat High School. The guy is all around good individual; He was a personal good friend of mine during our entire two years in the advanced level classes at Saints. He was always smiling and joking around with everyone and during classroom hours, he has always shined in every subject. He was well respected by all his fellow students and the faculty. I lost touch with Fa Bakary when I left the Gambia in 1992 for the US and always thought about him. I have actually searched for his name couple of time on the web just because I thought it could have been nice to reunite with him as a good friend. Yesterday, right before I left work I decided to logged on to your website and get my daily Gambian update or maybe read brother Lama's brilliant columns and BAM! there was Fa-Bakary's Picture with a Caption of his tragic death. I could not help but drop some tears for my good friend Fa Bakary and May his soul rest in perfect peace. Attached is a picture of us on "Passing out day" at Saints. He will always be in my mind as a buddy. Thanks for the good work Gainako. Keep it up. Baldeh, Editor & Political Commentator, Seattle, WA......Posted April 12th, 2007 A Gambian National by the name of Fa-Bakary Njie died a tragic death early Monday morning April 9, from a motor vehicle accident. Fabakary 36, a Gambian citizen living in Seattle Washington was on his way to work early Monday morning when he collided with a dump truck around 7am. He was pronounced death at the scene according to king County sheriff’s spokesman, Stg. John Urquhart. News of Fa-Bakary’s death reached the Seattle community early Tuesday morning when another Gambian national called one of the leaders in the community to report a possible involvement of a Gambian national in a car crash during the early Monday morning rush hour. The victim was transported to Haberview Medical Center in Seattle where he was later identified as Fa-Bakary Njie. The news of Fa-Bakary’s passing shocked the Seattle community and members of his family living in Madison, Wisconsin. Soon after the news spread in the community like a wild fire, many enquired about the identity of the victim and what they could do to help. Friends of Fa-Bakary and leaders of the Seattle Gambia Association immediately started to coordinate the community to gather resources to help transport the body back to the family in the Gambia. Several hundred Gambians and Fa-Bakary’s coworkers gathered in a hall on Wednesday evening April 11, to pay respect to the deceased and donate funds for the victim’s funeral arrangements here and in the Gambia. Many acquaintances and close friends of Fa-Bakary described him as a pious Muslim, intelligent, brilliant, and hardworking individual. One of Fa-Bakary’s supervisors at work described him “He always had a bright smile and a great attitude, and he will be missed very much by all who had the opportunity to know him.” Fa-Bakary is originally from Nuimi AlJamdu – Upper Nuimi district North Bank Division. He attended Nusrat High School in the late 80s and proceeded to St. Augustine’s High School to complete his Advance Level Studies. He did extremely well and had a distinction in his Ordinary level Examination (GCE). After completing his Advanced Level studies from St. Augustine’s, he was awarded a scholarship to study in India. He completed his Masters degree in Business Finance and Accounting and returned to Gambia. He taught at Nusrat High School and later work for the Audit Department before moving to Printing Department in the Gambia. Fa-Bakary migrated to the United States few years ago where he briefly stayed in New York, and then went to live with his uncle Abdoulie L. Drammeh in Madison, Wisconsin where he stayed until his moved to Seattle about six months ago. Speaking to his Uncle Mr. Drammeh earlier, he described Fa-Bakary’s death as a tragic and devastating lost for not only his family and friends, but for the entire Gambian Nation. He said Fa-Bakary was one of the most brilliant young intellectuals Gambia ever had. He further described Fa-Bakary as respectful, pious and family oriented. “He loves his family and was always in touch” said Mr. Drammeh. He is survived by both parents who still live in their native village AlJamdu in Nuimi. If anyone wants to donate funds to the cause of Fa-Bakary’s funeral you can deposit funds to a checking account # 646-32-664, Bank of America. The account is open by one of the decease’s close friends, Dawda Jabang who is doing an incredible job in coordinating the transportation of the body back to the Gambia. The family wishes to thank all those who have taken their time to pay respect to the deceased. Editor’s note: Thanks to the Seattle Gambia Association and the entire community in Seattle. On behalf of the entire management of Gainako, we pay respect to a Gambian with such a charisma. May the soul of the diseased rest in perfect peace.
