Ten years have passed since the April 10 and 11 student massacre, yet people of
conscience and believers of justice will never forget this historical tragedy. Today
again the United States based Gambians’ Movement for Democracy and Development (MDD) a Pro-Democracy, Human Rights and Justice Movement commemorates and mourns the events that happened on April 10 and 11, 2000.

 My beloved boys, I was billed to deliver a speech on Thanks Giving Day as part of the Hosea Feed the Hungry Program, November 23, 2006 at Turner Field, Atlanta Georgia, but poor coordination on the part of the planners robbed me of my slot to speak to the future of black America. Going through my soft files this week I came across this script which, I herewith transmit to you, and to all children in a letter that I do hope you will keep and live.

But in a country where even the art of reading silently is almost obsolete, we felt the need to commence a dialogue with parents and children about the need to revive the habit of reading in our families. We had earlier sparred over the tough question (in our recent T.V appearance on The Gentleman show) of how to get young people, especially those who have given up on educational pursuit, to read. We are not promising any definite answers but hope to provoke a national dialogue here that would provide some novel ideas and strategies towards a fresh approach to self improvement, particularly in our youth, using reading as a vital tool.
