
It was an amazing finish at the Fifa World Federation Soccer tournament in South Africa. The U.S National Soccer team made an unexpected significant showing almost unnoticed all the way to the Championship against Brazil.
Soccer fans across the world were taken by surprise when the United States' national team from a country where soccer is still seen as a long and boring sports, made it to the finals and almost brought home the championship trophy.
It all significantly began when the US team slowly but surely cruised its way through the simi finals when they shockingly defeated a highly ranked and talented Spanish team by 2 goals to nil and advanced to the championship.
In the maintime, Brazil edged host nation South Africa by defeating them 1 goal to nil and also advanced to the Final.
Many soccer fans as expected wrote off the US and speculated that South Africa or Spain would have made a tougher resistance against the Brazilian team.
However, as the media in the U.S started to pick up the steam leading to the show down Sunday, the US team seems to be heading to one of their most significant games in the history of US Soccer. Many speculated and wished that the long awaited market break through FIFA has long tried to penetrate in the United States is finally coming to a reality should the US win this championship.
Yet still, soccer enthusiasts who are well verse with the kind of talent and magnificient professional skills team Brazil always has were less optimistic that the US will be victorious.
The world watched the championship game with amazement and enthusiasm the kick off between the United States and superior soccer nation Brazil battle for ninty (90 min) minutes for the Fifa federation Trophy.
The U.S team with its first time appearance in a Fifa championship game, came out in style and determination to bring home the trophy. They played with high energy and dominated the Brazilian team. Surprisingly, the US team scored two (2) dominant goals in the first half and went into the half 2 nil.
The excitement and dream of a first time soccer championship trophy started to grip US soccer fans and their symphatizers. Many fans sat at the edge of their seats looking nervous going into the final half.
The final minutes of the first half showed the superior Brazilian team displayed their usual fundamental soccer game and mastery of soccer skills by returning back to their ground game which has propelled them over and over again to the helm of world soccer tournaments.
By the time the second half started the world and soccer fans were being reminded that champions do not yield under pressure despite being down 2 nill. The first few minutes right away put Brazil back into the contest when they scored against the United States.
After that first goal it was all the way evident that it was only a matter of time before Brazil pierce through the US net. Shortly, half way through the second half the equalizer goal came from a brilliant corner kick.
At this point, soccer fans who has watched Brazil match into championship after championship could see how the amazing story of US appearance would end like many others. Brazil being the stars they are played with confidence and basically controlled the tempo of the game. As predicted the go ahead goal came through a header from the Brazilian captain which sealed the deal for the night.
By no means those this defeat take away anything from the US team. They proof to the world that they are a rising team and would be a force to be reckon with come Fifa World Cup 2010 in South Africa.
In an interview aired shortly after the defeat, U S star Landon Donovan who scored one of the two U S goals said "We can't be happy with having gone this far. If we want to get better we have to demand more of ourselves."http://www.fifa.com/confederationscup/news/.
Finally, other teams that showed significant presents was the host nation South Africa who also played with zeal and encouragment from the home fans. They are another team to watch during the 2010 World Cup Soccer Touranment in South Africa. For now, well done U.S.A but Brazil insist championship.. not so soon...
