IGP Badjie Gets a Taste of His Own Medicine; Sacked and Reportedly Arrested!

Reports reaching Gainako has indicated that IGP Essa Badjie (Jesus) has been fired with immediate effect along with several other security personnel. As usual there was no official reason for the sacking and it follows the same trend of the Jammeh administration to hire and fire at will with or without a reason.

It is also reported that other top security officers have been sacked among them the head of the Gambian Navy Commander Admiral Sarjo Fofana and several others. Due to eratic hiring and sacking of the regime, our reporter could not confirm all the people sacked as this may change in the next twenty four hours.

IGP Badjie aka Jesus is alleged to have been responsible for the arrest and detention of several Gambians including the former Army Chief of Staff General Tamba. Badjie an ill educated police officer reportedly went after his enemies and implicated them from alleged coup plots to corruption.

Many insiders reported that President Jammeh has listened to this notorious security chief to a level which reached a dangerous point as he was pretty much implicating everybody.

In a related development, Mr Yankuba Sonko has replaced Mr. Badjie as the acting IGP. Mr. Famara Jallow former operation commander of the police force in Banjul who was sacked couple of months ago has been appointed as deputy IGP.

The amazing thing about this sacking is not that it is surprising but rather the way these security officers put all their faith in one man - the President who never hesitate to sack and humiliate anyone at anytime.  Sometimes one wonders what goes on in these peoples' heads that leads them to accept positions knowing fully well what awaits their fate.

As one contributor to Gainako once said "there is no mercy for sacked Ministers" so is the case in this situation. There is no mercy for IGP Badjie as he is getting the taste of his own medicine. In addition, the new deputy IGP Famara Jallow a one time close friend of Badjie and many others who are taking up positions in this high risk government are setting the stage for their next fate which, if they are lucky would this time spare their lives rather than their jobs.

What goes around comes around and the writings are on the wall for all to see. Accept positions at your own peril and it is a matter of time before it happens again. It is not a matter of serving one's country but serving one man.
