HUMRA's Statement on International Women's Day!

The Human rights for all Gambia extend our greatest solidarity to Gambian,African
and women of the world on the occasion of women's day.
Many women world wide dies of pregnancy. Pregnancy is not a disease and yet it kills
women every minute throughout the world. Human Rights for All (HUMRA) joins rights
groups world wide in condemning this.  This shows the failing of governments to
respect, protect and fulfill the rights of women. We therefor, declare this as Human
rights crisis in which women are the victims. HUMRA joins the call for:
1) Increase international aid for maternal, newborn and child health.
2) Maternal newborn and child health to be at the hearth of all health systems.
3)Sexual and reproductive rights to be made a reality for women and girls.

Further more as we reflect on the continues struggles of our women we must never
forget the history of human rights violation against African women. This oppression
includes gender base violence, some harmful traditional practices and social
religious in-balances against women. HUMRA therefor, call on the all governments and
decision makers around the world to respect the international conventions for the
promotion of women,s rights. This will no doubt create a better world for
Humanity. We further call world leaders to make all necessary efforts to see that
countries who are yet to ratify some of these conventions ratify them for benefit of
our society.
The era of  so called Independence in Africa, Gambia and the free world in
particular have not lessen the york of oppression on our women who constitute more
than half of the world population. The women are oppressed in all areas of human
life,political,economic,social cultural etc.

We appeal to all human rights loving Gambians and entire world  to support the
continued struggle of our women to be treated as human beings with rights, and stop
all forms negative traditional practices. This cannot be achieve without the active
mobilisation of women, support of decision makers and in particular the male counter
parts. We also call on the men of human rights orientation to join the struggle and
mobilise support for women activist in their daily struggles. HUMRA realizes that
women around the world and Gambian women in particular are yet to given their
rightful places in the society. We commends the women rights groups who because of
their relentless struggles our women are able to attain some of the achievements
recorded.

The women question have not been given its righful place in the national dialog for
democratic change despite the great contributions made by herioc women in our
peoples history and present struggles. We must understand that no real democratic
victory will be won  without the intergration of the gambian women questions.

Hope our appeal will be given the highest consideration in raising the question of
the human rights of our women in the center of the present national dialog to find a
wayfoward in  creating a society characterise by the highest values of human
rights. If we do not  solve the gender crisis it will result in our further decline
into barberism. We hope that we will all choose the alternative of returning to the
glorious periods of african and gambians relating with our
daughters, sisters, wifes, mothers and grand mothers with the greatest dignity.
