Breaking News: Gambian Journalist Pa Modou Bojang's Tuesday Deportation Orders Halted!

Uk: Reports reaching Gainako has it that Gambian Journalist Pa Modou Bojang who was ordered deported to Gambia today Tuesday July 27, after his asylum case was denied has been Postponed by the high Court in London.

The Home Office has been directed by a judge to review Pa Modou's Asylum case based on expert reports fascilitated by Amnesty International.

Readers may recalled that Pa Modou Bojang an undisputed Gambian journalist who was arrested several times in the Gambia for his journalistic work applied for asylum upon his arrival in the UK which was eventually denied base on credibility. The judge then ordered Pa Modou deported to Gambia base on ill information or lack of recognition of the plight of Gambia journalists and the press under the Jammeh regime.

As soon as Pa Modou notified his colleagues in the UK, the Gambia Press Union and the Gambian Press of his imminent danger of being deported to Gambia, Gambians in the UK, the Gambian online press and Amnesty international just to name a few rose up to stand up for Pa Modou and prevent his deportation.

Mounting pressure and several correspondence to Pa Modou's legal team forced his defense team to file a new appeal to reopen his asylum case.

Special commendation on groups and individuals working tirelessly on this case must go to Abdoukarim Sanneh of the UK who himself went through such ordeal several months ago. Amnesty International, National Union of Journalists, Gambia Press Union, Movement for Democracy and Development USA among several other individuals and organizations deserves much commendation for bringing the attention of UK authorities to Pa Modou's case.

The tireless Abdoukarim Sanneh said after the annoucement of the postponement "Once again, I want to thank Yankuba Darboe and his legal team, Paul Dillane of Amnesty International UK, Dr Ebrima Ceesay and Professor Arnold Hughes for coming to Pa Modou Bojang's case at the time of need. Pa Modou Bojang's asylum case will now be treated as a Fresh claim base on expert reports".

All, are urged to continue the pressure on behalf of Pa Modou to prevent his deportation to Gambia which could subject him to arrest, torture and detention when he sets his foot in the Gambia especially in the face of negative publicity about the Gambia government and its human rights violation.
